There is no one in greyhound racing who would begrudge the Norah Mac Kennel this Romford victory after the sickening fall of Longrange Denis at the Essex track on Wednesday night! While ‘Denis’ continues his recovery VISCOUNT RAMBLER returned to the scene and pulled off a deserved win to help lift the kennel mood!

VISCOUNT RAMBLER lifted the spirits of “Team Mac” when winning the ‘WATCH CORAL TV ONLY IN CORAL SHOPS MAIDEN STAYERS’ Open race at Romford last night! Showing good early pace he took up the running at the second bend and stayed on well to beat the Frank Gray trained Makeit Forirene by four lengths! The local runner (11/8 favourite) Melodys Gamble trained by Paul Young was a short-head further back in 3rd place. Owned by Dr H. Ngan the June 2011 son of Goldmine Ramble was sent off an 11/2 chance and clocked 35.55 (+20) 35.75 calculated when winning for the first time at Romford. This was a 12th career win for Viscount Rambler who has 3 wins at Sittingbourne to his credit plus 6 Thurles wins and 2 Kilkenny wins on his Irish Card!

The latest update on Longrange Denis is that he continues to progress and is eating well and is comfortable. Assistant trainer Gemma Byford reported yesterday that he is happy and said its becoming more of an effort to keep him quiet because he’s feeling so much better!

Springbok hopefuls get

a Wimbledon reminder

BALLYMAC CLEA, who heads the first set of standings for the 2015 William Hill Springbok, appears in Saturday’s first trial stakes for the Wimbledon competition.

Norah McEllistrim’s dog, who posted a calculated 29.76sec over the 480m Plough Lane jumps course on December 17, runs from trap two in the first warm-up race for the popular annual and will do battle with leading local novices Julius George (Tony Taylor) and Caddie Man (Bernie Doyle). Razldazl Clyde also runs for the McEllistrim kennel.

And in what is the first significant week in terms of preparation for the competition, the racing office has reminded trainers that any Springbok hopefuls must have completed a satisfactory trial at any GBGB venue by this Thursday. As in previous years, the first round (Saturday February 21) will comprise the fastest 36 qualifers over Wimbledon’s 480m jumps course prior to the competition closing date, which this year is Wednesday, February 18.
