Track news

Wendy (Hanover Lady) finally gained due reward for her wonderfully consistent performances with a resounding success last Friday in her A3.

Our blue girl gets the chance for a speedy double-up with an entry in the 9.42 at Wimbledon on Friday. She’s in red and the frame of the race (at time of writing) suggests she’ll have a pretty clear run to the bend. There’s one or two useful types in the heat and so she’ll need to put her best foot forward to hold off the challengers in those telling final few metres.

The next race on Friday’s card has Horse Outside (trap one) and (Oscar) Lima Oscar (trap six) amongst the entries. Horse has not been himself of late and two recent performances (where he finished sixth in each) suggest that there may be something amiss. Norah’s taken him for a blood test today (Wednesday).

Oscar, as has already been noted in past posts, is highly tried in premier grade heats and we can only hope for a solid, and safe, show from our son of  Balintore Brave.

Woody (Fleetwood Rocker) seems better in himself and well on the way to recovery. He had a great walk this afternoon in the care of visiting club-member, Liz, despite a dodgy moment when our blue took a very keen ‘interest’ in another breed along the footpath.

Despite numerous graded winners last weekend, it’s not been the best of weeks for the kennel with a trio of Open racers suffering injuries. Fortunately all are expected to make good recoveries though some (Droopys Darwin) will need more time than others.

Social news

It’s full steam ahead on the social front with a convoy to Sheffield Sales on Sunday and then the F.A.B. night out on the 10th.

The co-ordinators have decided to keep the focus on food, fun and friendship on the F.A.B. night so please take the time to speak to your neighbouring tables, get to know each other and, especially, welcome our newbies. All are welcome to come out for our trophy presentation.

This is the last post of our first year so a chance to thank all 2011/12 members for their support, welcome our newbies and wish farewell to those who – for now – are taking a break.

We’ve a healthy bank balance with a carry over given back to us from Norah who’s waiving kennel/vet fees other than those paid for from win and run money. As well as all the income from the 2012/13 membership. Norah’s intention is to add to our racing strength when the right dog comes our way – and of course we’ve still plenty of fun left with our current quartet of  runners, with the additional possibility that Rumbles may also be capable of producing some pups.

Greyhound Star competition winner announced

Gary Maunders kindly organised, with The Greyhound Star, a competition promoting the club. He reports:

“Winner of the competition in last month’s ‘ Greyhound Star’ offering the winner a year’s free membership (worth £300). From a good entry Norah picked the name of Hayley Scopes out of the hat! Hayley, from Bury St Edmunds, had correctly named HANOVER LADY as the Club’s first ever winner! On a visit to the kennels last Sunday Hayley met her trainer, fellow members and of course walked the Club greyhounds she now shares!”
