Update for week to 31st March
Trials at Hove
Woody (Fleetwood Rocker) went the full Standard 515metres in a three dog trial on Monday. He took a while to get into stride but was staying on stoutly in the final stages. Beaten one and three quarter lengths at the line, clocking 30.72, he will be sharper for this run.
It was our very own Lenny (Droopys Leonard) who won the trial, clocking 30.57. Lenny showed eye-catching ping from the traps, building a comfortable lead by mid-race. There didn’t seem too much left in the tank crossing the line but he stayed the trip well enough.
Another glorious morning for those that sojourned south! Warm sunshine and the sea air – pretty good! A tip for the future – the Co-op cafe, next door, does a mean Americano.
Review
Last weekend had Wendy (Hanover Lady) recording an A2 victory which now has her competing at the highest grade in our final weeks at Plough Lane. Our blue did nothing wrong but certainly benefited from the misfortune to runners chasing her. Top class for Wendy – who’d have thought it.
Horse (Horse Outside) put in a creditable run in some respects, finishing in explosive style. Nonetheless a poor start and shuffling back around the first bend had left him with a mountain to climb.
Oscar (Lima Oscar) stayed on in his usual pragmatic style, claiming bronze beaten under half a length in his A2 on Saturday.
Preview
Horse (Horse Outside) takes his chance from the blue box in the A1 (9.00pm) on Saturday. Fingers crossed he secures a decent pitch ‘early doors’ in order to make the most of his undoubted pace in the closing stages.
Wendy (Hanover Lady) is entered in the 10.15 A1 later in the evening. This level will really stretch her and fingers crossed for a safe run.
At the time of writing Oscar (Lima Oscar) is a reserve for the weekend.
Social & News
Saturday, April 7th will be the final date for graded runners at Wimbledon, Norah confirmed this with the management this morning (Thursday). Hove trials are moving on and graded runners could be racing at Nevill Road from the following week.
Regarding ‘occasion marking’ social events; it’s difficult to plan anything formal regarding ‘leaving’ Wimbledon given the relatively short notice. Whilst Sundays 15th (mainly Open race card) or 22nd April are being considered for a Sunday lunch get together at Hove. Racing takes place between 1130a.m. and 2.30p.m. (approximately) and the Sunday Roast in the track restaurant is a popular destination for the locals apparently. The timings allow for a further sortie into town or the sea front for the ‘after party.’
Check out the notice board in the Owners Lounge and the website for further news.
The pics of the F.A.B. night out are up in the media gallery – thanks to Jacko for his efforts on the night! If there are any mistakes or names you want adding to the captions – drop a line by e-mail or mention it at the kennels.
