Kennel Mourns Loss Of Leathems Desire
The Norah McEllistrim Kennel is still in shock with the loss of kennel star LEATHEMS DESIRE who was found dead in the Hove kennels when due to race in A1 company there last Saturday week. The kennel did not want to go public until hearing the results of the post-mortem but early indications from the tests carried out on Leathems Desire suggest that he had an undetected heart problem. Speaking on Sunday Norah said “They still have to do a lot of blood tests but I’ve been told he had circulation issues and there was a problem with one of the veins into his heart. She continued “It does make it a little easier to understand as I’d been wracking my brain to think if there was anything I’d missed and, in hindsight, I’m just thankful it didn’t happen during a race.” Norah added she had been extra-vigilant this week. “I decided not to run Sizzlers Eagle at Hove on Thursday as he just didn’t quite seem right. I got his blood tested and it turned out he had a slight infection.” Norah said of her Monmore Puppy Derby semi-finalist “He was a lovely big dog who was very friendly and he loved the attention that he got. He was strong and relaxed with a big future ahead of him. Clocking 29.65 over the Hove 515 metres tells you how talented he was. Dogs like ‘Winston’ don’t come along every day and he will be sadly missed by everyone involved with the kennel”.
