Review

First and foremost it’s great to report that Lenny (Droopys Leonard) has suffered no ill-effects from his first bend tumble when disputing the lead in his Open Maiden on Sunday. Our youngster looked to have an excellent chance on paper. He was making ground on the six dog, who pinged, to contest turning the bend, they tangled and both were out of the race.

Lenny will have his mandatory re-trial on Saturday and should be back on the grade thereafter. (update 17/5 – no re-trial needed for an Open race)

Horse Outside, as hoped, has recovered his  ‘mojo’ and pushed through on the rails at the first to grab the lead in his A5 on Friday morning.  Once at the head of affairs he stayed on throughout with plenty of zest to win by a commanding three and a half lengths.

Despite the heat being very much early doors our black and white attracted interest in the betting market, rewarding supporters well enough at the returned 7-4 from opening 2’s.

Oscar (Lima Oscar) picked up some decent run money with two creditable performances in the week.  He’ll pop up soon enough at a working man’s price if his past record is anything to go by.

Woody (Fleetwood Rocker) is on anti-biotics and is expected to be fit to trial back in a fortnight or so.

Previews

Thursday is Hove Owners Association Trophy Night and the kennel has a decent selection of runners on show.  Wendy (Hanover Lady) is the club runner and our blue dons the red jacket in the D1 at 746pm. A decent break and a run similar to that on May 2nd would give her a small each way chance.

Another crack at an A6 awaits Oscar (Lima Oscar) on Friday’s lunchtime BAGS meet. Again in stripes, hopefully he can make his presence felt.

Sunday, perhaps, provides the highlight for this week’s Club runners as Lenny (Droopys Leonard), none the worse for his tumble last week, seems to have been given a more benign berthing in the 212pm, a division of the Gala Coral Standard Open. A striped jacket with generally tardier breakers inside provides Lenny with a chance to gain consolation for last week’s mishap. Fingers crossed – a decent break gives our black lad a favourite’s chance of claiming gold.

The kennel has representatives on Saturday’s Sky TV star-studded super semi-finals Wimbledon card.  Derby Plate entries are Cloheena Cash and Droopys Patsy, whilst Druids Gaffney takes his chance in the Champion Hurdle heats,
