Review and comments

Well the season’s moving on and thoughts are turning toward social events for later in the year and into next.  Currently Norah is considering suggesting an inter-track with Wimbledon to the appropriate administrators and management.  This would include a social, offering the Surrey/London based owners an opportunity to see their dogs locally, whilst the South Coast contingent get a chance to experience the bright lights of the big city! Well the electricity sub station next to the track’s entrance to be more precise!

Norah would be interested in feedback regarding the restaurant or corporate area for our base should the event get the green light.

Also a Winter social at Hove, similar to the recent event held in The Sprinters Function room which has been well received, is on the agenda.

There is a Greyhound Sales event at Henlow (Bedfordshire) on Sunday September 30th. This is geographically closer to most of us than recent Sales events.  Greyhound Sales run by Brian Harrison are a great day out and it’s not a 1000-1 shot that Norah will be buying for the kennel or club. Whether you buy or not it’s a day full of interest and plenty of fun – already we have about ten members heading up.  Trials are from 1100am and sales begin at about 1.30pm.

Norah bought Horse Outside, Wendy and Oscar at Hall Green sales in May 2011 and look what fun they have provided for the kennel and club members. Lenny, more recently purchased at Sheffield earlier this year, is another good buy, very much holding his own in the higher grades at Hove.

Back to the track and Wendy (Hanover Lady), without winning, retained her good form last week with two decent displays, including in the Open Sprint at Sittingbourne last Tuesday.

Horse Outside takes to the track on Wednesday’s BAGS card. Contesting an A4 at 4.08pm, our black and white lad should make his presence felt and is rated odds-on in to take a medal of some description.  Update 29/8 – unfortunately Horse was ‘off colour’ so Norah took the decision to withdraw our lad. Hopefully it will be short-lived and he’ll back shortly.

Friday’s BAGS card offers club interest with Oscar (Lima Oscar) getting a run in the A6 at 12.58pm. Oscar has the burden of a trap five berth which tends to diminish his chance – at least statistically.  But, those of us who know Oscar well appreciate he’ll do things his way and there have been tougher looking A6 contests run at Nevill Road.

Saturday evening’s finale, an A4 at 10.30pm, sees Lenny (Droopys Leonard) return to the fray.  There’s a defined pattern to Lenny’s efforts; if he gets an early lead with a sharp exit he can win and put in a very decent clocking. If, on the other hand, he doesn’t lead he fades badly and under achieves. Also if our April ’10 lad runs too frequently he tends to put in a poor display, so the hope is that he’ll not run more than a maximum once a week but, ideally, about once every ten days.

The shortage of wide runners puts the racing manager in a difficult position but we’re hoping that Lenny isn’t over raced now, following Norah discussing this problem with the Hove Racing Office. That said, it’s still only a week since his last run though this heat looks a significant drop in company and Lenny benefits from a sole wide seeding. Fingers crossed.
