Review

It’s fair to say the kennel has well and truly settled in now at the Nevill Road Stadium. The late summer sunshine on Sunday provided a glorious backdrop as team Norahmac raised their game, resulting in a sizzling six timer for the kennel including a delightful double for the club.

As noted in last week’s preview all three club dogs running on Sunday had decent chances. Lenny, unfortunately, was moved into trap five when his heat was re-framed, reducing his winning chance given his preference for the striped jacket.

Nevertheless those club members and associates that were at the track all filled their pockets, and reports off-course suggest that few Norahmac owners or club members were paying out of their own money for their Sunday lunches.

And so to the canine heroes: Oscar (Lima Oscar) never looked out of his comfort zone and made his A7 success look easy.

Hotly on his heals came our club darling Wendy (Hanover Lady), who took a thrilling top grade Sprint in her stride. Taking advantage of a plot draw against some pretty classy rivals, she put in her usual gritty performance.

Starting prices of 4-1 and 9-2 respectively look pretty generous in hindsight!

Four other winners on the card – some of which owned by club members, glorious sunshine and a wonderfully friendly atmosphere amongst members, Hove race-goers and track staff made for a perfect FREE day out.

The only question that needs answering is what will wipe the smile from bookie Steve Joel’s face?  Despite paying out unrelentingly during what must have felt like a never-ending session, he remained friendly and free spirited throughout.  My guess, it’s because he can look forward to being comforted by the enchanting Sheila when he gets home. Lucky man – I say!

Sunday’s winning streak provided the perfect welcome for our two latest individual recruits to the club; welcome Len and Janet. Hope you each managed to see the races and have a little bet.  No worries if you haven’t as all our wins are downloaded to our video gallery, Sunday’s will appear in the next couple of weeks.

A further reminder for all to consider supporting the Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare Winter Ball, Sunday December 2nd, and the Henlow Sales informal social at Henlow on Sunday September 30th.

We’re close to making a big announcement regarding our club kennel strength – stand by as negotiations come to a conclusion!!!!

Preview

Three days after his disappointing show when beaten favourite, Lenny (Droopys Leonard) is entered, and again tackling A4 company in Wednesday’s finale at 6.11pm. Berthed in stripes, Lenny, who tends to run better fresh, also has to clear another wide seeded runner in five to gain an early lead. Hard to forecast how Lenny will go if he takes his chance.

Friday’s BAGS brunch card features Oscar (Lima Oscar) tackling A6 company at 13.44pm. Our son of Balintore Brave doesn’t face the toughest opposition found in this grade and has every chance of landing a quickfire double following Sunday’s convincing A7 success.

Saturday’s all-trophy Owner’s night card has Wendy (Hanover Lady) contesting one of the feature races, the D1 at 941pm. The heat is an Open in all bar name with some very strong sprinters in the line-up, not least Guinness Smokie in trap six. Wendy gets the blue berth and if she shows her usual pace to the bend may get the rails pitch. A little reverse forecast with six may give us a run for our money.

Lenny (Droopys Leonard) is entered for the 10.13pm, an A4. He has a sole wide seed and did very little wrong in defeat on Wednesday. That said he’s having plenty of racing.

Completing  the week we have Horse Outside taking a poke at the 12.58pm, an A4, on Sunday’s brunch BAGS card. Horse gets a red jacket and, on anything close to his best, would be in with a decent shout in what could turn out to be a messy affair.
