News and Review

Yes, that’s right, our ‘shrinking violet’ has finally caved in to an appearance on Racing Post TV. And it’s scheduled for Thursday September 19th!  A mega-date for every diary and it should make riveting viewing for all her friends and supporters.

Norah is keen to get plenty of e-mails and tweets to keep the show on the road. It’ll be Hove for the racing so we’re likely to have some fancied runners that evening too – both kennel and club!

All great fun – except for poor Norah who prefers to shun the limelight.

Next Sunday, Sept 1st, it’s Sales Day at Hall Green.  Norah has scheduled to go along – so anyone who fancies an exciting and interesting day out – turn up and see another slice of greyhound life.  Norah will gladly offer advice and help regarding potential purchases.

And another big announcement. To simplify the time and effort regarding funding the Summer Social, Norah has agreed to put one of the ‘kennel stars of the show’ up for the raffle and auction.

So the actual greyhound will be named before the raffle but we’ll wait until nearer the time to decide which one (injuries are always just around the corner).

The raffle will have three winners. Each securing a completely free lease on the greyhound for twelve months.  The winners will be registered as owners and receive all the benefits of greyhound ownership at Hove stadium eg trophies, passes, restaurant concessions etc.

There is no cost at all for twelve months after which the lease ends, with no further obligation, as ownership will revert to Norah.

The final quarter will be auctioned after the raffle on exactly the same terms. So if you want an interest for a fixed amount there’s no excuse to not get involved! All funds raised go to covering the cost of the event and a guaranteed payment of at least £100 (or the excess if there is one) to Retired Greyhound Kennels.

Even if you’re not present on the night everyone is welcome to purchase raffle tickets (see Norah or Debbie Forrest) or put in a sealed bid for the auction (via Norah or Ross).

So that’s the free Summer Soiree on Saturday, September 7th in Sprinters function room – it’s all about having a great time.

Back to the track and another fine week for the kennel, continuing in a really rich vein of form.  A treble at Hove on Saturday night from just six runners, including a stonking 16.13 clocking from Ballymac Marine for Mick and Debbie (achieving a GD rating of 129 – not bad for a January ’12 pup).

As well as winners galore throughout the week, including Jackie’s Baby Sky winning her Brighton Belle heat, Horse Outside, Sizzlers Bigboy and Ballymac Benefit through to Owners’ Finals on Saturday coming, and some great runs from the Open runners at Sittingbourne on Sunday. This capped with Kizi landing the £1k Siver Salver Final (videos to follow).

Thankfully Gilbert (Ferdia Oscar)is, reportedly only sore after his mishap on Saturday, whilst Norah wants us to know Oscar (Lima Oscar) has a slight niggle which will keep him off for a couple of weeks now.

Update 27/8: Norah reports a very pleasing run from Ballymac Marine in his trial at Romford on Tuesday, recording a storming 24.06.

Preview

A decent Open night card on RPGTV on Thursday night and the kennel has a useful clutch of entrants all in with a shout. Good luck to Baby Sky, representing Jackie and her crew in the Brighton Belle semi-finals.

Club action returns on Friday’s card and Wendy (Hanover Lady) has a lot less on her plate than of late with a trap one berth in the D1 at 11.42am. This is a significent step down in class and Wendy looks likely to be a market leader and give a very good account of herself.

Later in the morning, Lenny (Droopys Leonard) has a cut at the A5 at 12.12pm. A trap five pitch isn’t so great and, whilst we can be hopeful of a solid showing, it’s fair to say the other kennel representative, Graiguenoe Royal in trap one, looks to have been given his best chance for some while and could be the one to be on.

It’s the hoped for ‘dream frame-up’  for Horse Outside in his A5 Owners’ Bonus Final at 8.51pm. Boxed in one with a modest paced runner in two, and then middle seeds from there on out, gives our white and black every chance of a clear look at the bunny.  Fingers crossed for a very bold show.

It’s off to Sittingbourne on Sunday with Open action for some of the kennel cannine crew. For the club, Gilbert (Ferdia Oscar) has a decent shout in the Open Maiden, running from five in the 6.18pm. Our white and black will find this opposition a little easier than those Posh runs and is none the worse for his unfortunate tumble in a Sprint last week at Hove.
