Firstly congrats to Zodiac Zeus and connections, winning at Oxford tonight (9th), signalling the good order of the kennel inmates.  A great start to the Derby week-end.

To recap and for those who have been on another planet these past few days, Greyhound Derby night this Saturday will feature four of the best from the kennel.

Pigalle Star attempts to win away from Romford out of trap one in the opener, the Sprint at 6.55pm. Sizzlers Spirit seeks to retain his hurdling supremo status by seeing off the challenge of Junior Mac in the Champion Hurdle at 8.45pm.  And, of course, the main event has Cloheena Cash facing the toughest task of his career, seeking to make Derby history at 1012pm. In the 1035pm Roseville Tiny takes her chance, replacing the withdrawn trap one runner.

Good luck to them all and congrats to the team for just getting them there safe and sound.

To be hummed to the tune of ‘A boy Named Sue’

Our Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash, you’ve heard his name,

Country and Western was his game,

But this one’s singing’s  not his saving grace,

‘Cos this Johnny Cash was born to race.

Johnny Cash, born worlds apart,

Each one destined to steal a heart,

But this is where the similarity ends,

‘Cos our Johnny Cash he runs four bends.

Our Johnny Cash of noble breed,

Arrived at Norah’s a right ‘Little Weed’

But trips to Waitrose for chicken thighs,

Packets of ham, and fresh pork pies,

Gave him the edge, allowed him to shine,

To ping from the traps and cross that line.

On Saturday night we’ll all be there,

To live the dream you’ve let us share,

Excitement, nerves, and all the rest,

Ours, whilst you do what you love best.

Johnny we know you’ll do us proud,

As we stand and cheer amidst the crowd,

And one things for sure, whatever you do,

You’ll never sing “A boy named Sue.”
