Review

A fine turn-out from Norah’s crew, a staggering forty six guests, at the Hove Owners Awards Dinner last Friday. We were rewarded with the thrill of Wendy’s award as runner-up in the best newcomer to Hove category, and our very own Travelling Head Lad, Tim, receiving kennel-hand of the year. This on the back of runner-up in the national category so very well deserved indeed for Tim.

These plaudits made our inaugural Awards night an evening to remember. Many thanks to all on the Hove Owners committee for their hard work in putting the function together. And to club members who traveled from far and wide to join us – not least Grace and Geoff  from Spain, and Janet who travelled down from Corby.

As mentioned last week, this Wednesday sees the Easter Eggstravaganza meeting at Hove. The club is lucky enough to have Wendy (Hanover Lady) picked to take her chance in the Sprint heat at 3.07pm.  It’s enhanced prize money with a trip to the £1,000 to the winners Grand Final at Monmore on Good Friday.

In a tough heat Wendy, boxed in two, will need to pace up for a lead to make the most of this opportunity. The five dog (Call Me Millie) could be the main danger.

Earlier in the afternoon, in the A9 at 2.27pm, Oscar (Lima Oscar) gets an opportunity to make amends for a poor show last week. On that occasion Oscar completely missed the break. He’ll strip fitter and if he is with the field down the far side would hold decent chances.  Though not one to rely on totally, modest stakes are advised.

Norah reports all club hounds (on the card at the moment) to be in good nick. Once formalities are sorted we will properly introduce our new acquisition, Classy Molly, with a complete profile and pic in the stars of the show page.

Thursday evening’s televised mixed card provides Lenny (Droopys Leonard) another chance on the comeback trail. Lenny looked pretty rusty on his return to the track last week.  He has a sole wide seed in the A5 at 9.40pm but there is plenty of pace on his inside and he’ll need to be a lot sharper than last week to be in the shake-up.

Oscar (Lima Oscar) gets a second sighting this week, contesting the A9 at 8.02pm on Saturday. Our journeyman ran better than his finishing position might suggest on Wednesday, running on late and picking the field up, albeit after the post.  It shows our lad is getting better in himself and he has a lone wide seeding. At a working man’s price (7-2 ish or better) he’d be worth a nibble.
