‘Hero’ crowned king in Coronation Cup
A spectacularly wonderful start for the year for the Kennel as Rathglass Hero grabs gold and is crowned Romford king on Wednesday’s Sky TV highlight.
If you’re not in it you can’t win it – so all credit to ‘Dave’ (Rathglass Hero) and trainer Norah for a flawless approach to the competition.
A relatively recent arrival at the kennel for norahmac club members Debbie Williams and Mick Mccrory, the three year old black has come on steadily, improving through his Wimbledon trials before winning at Plough Lane in graded company.
The 2008 son of Brett Lee then returned to his old Essex stomping ground for this prestigious and valuable Category Two competition, needing to pass through heats and semi’s to reach the final and a shot at bagging the £5,000 purse.
Whilst he stays every inch of the 575 at Romford, it didn’t do his chance any harm when the short priced favourite stumbled on the run up and the ensuing first bend trouble.
However that’s greyhound racing and connections and trainer can be delighted as Rathglass Hero, producing a decent break from the traps remained clear of allcomers, sealing a career best victory in what can be considered a highlight for all concerned.
As a footnote that’s twenty points in the bag towards the 2012 Trainer’s Championship. And whilst Norah considers herself a longshot for the highly prized top six placings, this success is yet another fantastic advertisement for Norah’s skills as a top class trainer.
