The rain didn’t put a dampener on the Norahmac (What) Summer Soiree last Saturday. Safely cocooned in the Sprinters Function room, a convivial gathering of about one hundred members, owners and guests appeared to have a relaxed and light-hearted evening.
The kennel had two winners, including winning the Norahmac Trophy race… which was nice.
Horse Outside was terribly unlucky not to win his heat – coming with a surge down the back straight, within a length or so of the leader, only to have his passage completely blocked. A case of a blocked back passage I’m afraid!
The evening raised £200 for Brighton Retired Greyhound Trust and we were pleased to entertain their human and canine representatives, Dolly and her retired hound.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors: Terry Brown (Hove Videos), Paul Fletcher (Actionshotsonline), Steve and Sheila Joel (Bookmakers) and Hove Stadium. A big thanks to the track staff who ensured a smoothly run event.
Norah decided to bid (and won) the auctioned meal for four at the stadium restaurant but many thanks to Alan Woods (co-owner of Cloheena Cash) for stumping up the £100 for Norah – he also let Norah keep the meal!
A great night. Plans are already developing for another similar ‘do’ in September!

It could be a busy week for the club strength. All four are on duty on Wednesday or Thursday, suggesting a second call-up may come later in the week.
Wednesday’s afternoon BAGS meeting has a trio of club runners on the card; in the 3.58pm Oscar (Lima Oscar) lines up for an A5. In trap five, it doesn’t look the softest A5 ever run and our three year old will do well to make a podium place.
Next up,comes Horse Outside in the 4.47pm an A4. Clearly in good heart and berthed on the rails, fingers crossed Horse will not again suffer a blocked back passage and gain recompense for Saturday’s unfortunate run.
Lenny (Droopys Leonard) has another opportunity to show his mettle from trap six in the 5.38pm an A2. Whilst Lenny got out quick enough on Sunday he was ‘worried’ out of a decent pitch down the back straight. An uncontested lead is really what the doctor orders for our black lad. Will he get it – your guess is as good as mine!
Thursday’s televised Racing Post Greyhound TV (now on channel 212) card has Wendy (Hanover Lady), in what has become a regular feature, taking her chance in the Sprint at 9.06pm. It’s an Open in all but name with some of Nevill Road’s top pace-setters lining up. Fingers crossed for a safe and sound run.
There’s a second call to arms for Lenny (Droopys Leonard) for the A2 at 834pm on Saturday’s all-sponsored card. Sole wide seed in a reasonably ordinary heat gives our black a decent chance for a double on the week! Fingers crossed.
