Club co-ordinator, Gary Maunders, has written to mayor Boris, and Merton Council,  in support of the We Want Wimbledon campaign.

Wimbledon has a special place in Norah’s heart and many, if not all, at the kennel would welcome a reinvigorated Wimbledon. Against that, it can be considered a grave dis-service to the Greyhound industry to lose racing at Wimbledon.

Those with similar sentiments to Gary (on behalf of the club) can add their weight to the petition by writing directly themselves. Further details can be found on the Wimbledon Owners website.

Dear Boris,

We write in the hope that you can help save Wimbledon Stadium and thus keep Greyhound Racing in our capital City.  Every sport has a show case Stadium. Football has Wembley,  Rugby has Twickenham,  Cricket has Lords and Athletics has the magnificent new Olympic Stadium!

Greyhound Racing needs a show case Stadium in London.  And Wimbledon,  home of the Greyhound Derby,  has to be that Stadium!

Yes!  The old Stadium is tired and run down yet still attracts good crowds on its Friday and Saturday race nights!

Paschal Taggart’s amazing plans for a new Stadium,  Sport and Leisure facility including housing would create a complex that the local community could be proud of.

Taggart has a proven track record developing Stadiums in Ireland allowing the Irish Greyhound public to follow their sport in style.

A new purpose built Stadium with all the modern facilities and the capacity to hold the worlds greatest greyhound race – The Greyhound Derby –  would attract an even greater audience to this amazing sport.

Greyhound racing is a huge industry with Breeders, Trainers, Owners, Kennel hands and Stadium staff all being affected by the loss of another stadium!  Please don’t allow that to happen again.

Lets all unite to make Wimbledon the London home of Greyhound Racing!

Very Best Regards,

Gary Maunders, Norah Mac Racing Club
