Review and News
The weekend proved to be one of the highlights in the club’s history with a terrifically triumphant trio of winners. Horse Outside had his head in front when it mattered to land his heat on Friday. A perfect prelude to a sensational Saturday evening when everything fell into place for the club.
We had a cracking turn-out of members from near and far, including Sid’s return to the fray following a bout of ill-health, and Lee and Lisa, travelling over from Bermuda, supported by their own group of friends – all first time racegoers. The Caribbean couple sponsored their own race – with club representative, Oscar Lima, rated the outsider as a 7-1 poke to grab the glory!
As usual Oscar makes his own mind up as to his performance. And Saturday night was to be his night, putting in one of his career best runs much to the jubilation of all in attendance (the dvd and pictures will be on the website in the next couple of weeks). He blazed a wide berth and victory was never really in doubt, providing a bumper windfall for his fans. This was then followed by a euphoric exodus over to the podium presentation area with a myriad of members and supporters convening to celebrate a thrilling success.
Sid’s wife, Greta, receiving the trophy on behalf of the club, from a tearfully (yes she was crying) joyous Lisa much to the obvious bemusement of the hound himself. To his credit Oscar took everything in his stride, allowing about a hundred or so different hands to give him plenty of petting throughout proceedings.
The night had already kicked off in grand style with Wendy producing a ping exit for a flying 16.39, landing the sprint with a typically polished performance.. Our canine queen is getting close to her century of runs and a race will be sponsored to honour her grand career in the next month or so.
Great fun all round with Norah and Gemma in attendance for what turned out to be a stupendously thrilling night of entertainment.
Other kennel runners played their part in the evening; Lisa’s Princess Jetta running a gallant second and Coolscart Hawk (owned by a syndicate of club members) doing the business in his A5.
For attending club members, and hopefully those supporting from further afield, Saturday July 20th was a night that fulfilled all the promise of the thrills of greyhound ownership.
News
Whilst it is not formally confirmed we’re really hoping to have our, somewhat belated, Summer Soiree on Saturday September 7th. It will be a kennel and club event so all are welcome and it will be organised on the same lines as last year – free entry with raffle ticket sales on the night subsidising the cost of the event.
We also thank Coral Stadium management for their generous support of the event. It’s really good that the management are pleased to give us owners something back and we do appreciate their generous gesture.
Further details to follow.

The club has two Open runners at ‘away’ tracks for next week, demonstrating the improving class of the club strength.
Leah (Memories Leah) is given a chance to break into the bigger time with an entry in the Maiden Stayers competition at Romford on Monday (live in betting shops). Course and distance are uncharted but it’s going to be the way forward with our useful girl. Norah has always expected Leah to be a stayer so fingers crossed for a decent and safe passage from trap five in the 7.27pm. First two go through to Friday’s final.
Gilbert (Ferdia Oscar) gets his entry into the Peterborough Derby. He lines up in Heat One, Round One, at 8.26pm on Wednesday. He’s berthed in trap five and first three go through to Round Two on Saturday.
Our white and black ran a blinder for most of the way in the 480m race at Sittingbourne. The ‘Posh’ trip of 435m may well be more suitable.
Wednesday’s BAGS action features a quick return for Horse Outside, now raised to A4 level, in the 5.07pm. Drawn in two, our lad should follow speedy kennel mate ‘Lionel’ Messi, in red, into the first bend. This with the hope he can get a pitch close enough to get into the mix in the latter stages.
The final contest, the A6 at 6.11pm, offers a reasonably quick ease in grade for Dessie (Droopys Design). Hopefully our youngster will return to his trap-pinging style in what is a very tight affair.
There will be no further updates this week and followers are advised to check with the kennel, or twitter or Hove website for runners over the weekend.
