There’s No Flies On Norah
Monty would have been proud of the militarily precise operation that was ‘The Raid On Owlerton’ by a determined brigade of Norahmac club members and associates all led from the front by The Guvnor, herself.
Having set off at daybreak from various encampments in Surrey, the form students already clutching a marked form book from previous nights rigorous internet study, the convoy arrived and billeted in the trackside cafe (full English £3.80p!), awaiting trials.
While the troops looked after their stomachs, Norah (more professionally) checked out the four-legged potential in the paddocks.
Come mid-morning all eyes were trackside with about sixty pups taking the Owlerton turns in what was particularly sloppy going, following about three hours of heavy rain.
Norah was pretty keen on several from her earlier paddock inspection and was happy with their trial runs. Years of buying and training really pay-off at such times as this and it’s the easiest thing in the world to put one’s trust completely in the hands of a genuine professional who knows the game inside out – there’s no flies on Norah! And that’s a fact!
After a short break the auction began. In a very comfortable bar area, overlooking the track, the hounds were each brought in and offered up. There were plenty of people looking but not too many buying. The Norahmac brigade were under strict orders from our ‘superior officers’ to stick to the hounds already earmarked as the best of the bunch. And, to our credit, we remained a tight knit unit – besides there was only room for six cannines in the cars coming back!
All the dogs that Norah had an eye on were successfully purchased and all well within the budgets set – though we were under bidders for the two top lots. Thoroughly satisfied with the business end of affairs Norah was, nonetheless, moved to say had there been more room, given the value of the lots on offer, she could have come back with a significant number more.
So with the sextet all ‘home’ safely Norah has: a ‘fun type’ recuperating at the farm for a few weeks, two youngsters already sold to private buyers and another to an established syndicate within the kennels… and the best news of all, two very exciting types set to join the Norahmac racing club!
Yes Droopys Ellen and Droopys Leonard, both from the renowned leading Irish Stud – the Droopys-Stud, will add class to our club kennel strength. Each, not yet two years old, have enormous potential to give us plenty of fun with the hope they will each go on to have Open race careers. Check out their details via the link on the Stars of the Show page.
We now have six hounds running under the Norahmac Racing Club banner. They each have many races left in them and/or enormous potential – an incredible package for anyone wanting to have year round thrills for an annual cost of just £300!
