Review

Sunday 7th saw action on two fronts for the club – and it was all good:

Those at the track, including our newest member Grace  with husband Geoff and family,  witnessed some great runs from our canine team. Oscar’s third, Lenny’s second and Horse’s win on the card made it a meeting to remember.

Horse Outside held on by the shortest of short heads to land the spoils, paying out a very generous return, at 9-2, to those that took the ‘preview hint’ that “anything better than 7-2 was worth a play” and that a “bold show was expected.”

It’s fair to say that the local bookies to the kennels, Metrobet at Hersham,  took a bit of a pummeling as the money went down off course too. Several members taking their leave of the very energetic photo-shoot to witness Horse’s victory.

It was first bet,  a £2 wager, first win for Janet – who had only joined the club a couple of weeks ago, and together with husband Brian, was making her first visit to walk the greyhounds, meet the team and get to know co-members at the kennels.

Janet clearly doesn’t mind a drive as they had traveled down from a family function in Crewe, detouring to Hersham on route to Corby!

Stand by for a veritable feast of images from the kennel shoot in the weeks ahead.  Liz, from www.madaboutgreys.com, really had both humans and four-legged friends on their toes/paws, taking what must have been several hundred shots of what was a very busy morning at the kennels.

Also noteworthy was a big run from Wendy who, after her short lay-off, grabbed silver in her run on Saturday night.

And it’s last orders for the Ball. Bookings close on October 31st for the Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare Winter Ball (see earlier post for full details).

There are now only a few places left as it’s coming close to a sell out.

Cheques payable to Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare to Norah or Dawn (at Hersham Hounds) if you want to secure a seat.

The club racing week kicks off on Wednesday afternoon with Wendy (Hanover Lady) seeking to reverse form with her conqueror, Really Lethal, last Saturday. Our blue girl wears the red jacket again in the D1 at 4.27pm and will be sharper for the recent outing which had followed a short break.

On Thursday’s card, live on Sky 212, Lenny (Droopys Leonard) gets a poke at the A4 at 9.40pm. Can he go one better than Sunday’s decent effort? On balance it looks a tougher heat and Lenny will need to be at his sharpest to hold off some useful sorts.

Friday’s BAGS brunch meet has Horse Outside facing a tough assignment in the A3 at 12.42pm. Our September ’09 lad, boxed in two, faces pace either side and a generally classy bunch of hounds in what can be considered a hot heat for the level. Luck in running and a personal best look required!

Later on, in the A7 at 1.44pm, Oscar (Lima Oscar), from his favoured stripes position, has the times on the card to make his presence felt. Whether that amounts to a gold is moot.  Fingers crossed.

Wendy (Hanover Lady) gets a second bite at the cherry this week, and with a trophy up for grabs, in the D1 at 7.46pm on Saturday’s card. Our blue girl lost nothing in defeat on Wednesday and again faces her conqueror, Nimrod, and old foe, Really Lethal. With any kind of decent break it’s hard to see Wendy not making her presence felt.
