On what seemed likely to be a blank week for the club this time last week, it’s great to report that Wendy (Hanover Lady) showed few ill effects from her bout of sickness to claim the bumper £164 purse, winning her D1 in fine style on Sunday. And surely she epitomises why we humans have an affinity with greyhounds, notching the club’s fiftieth victory since conception two years ago.

One or two track punters sniffed out a bit of evens (for small money)  from an accommodating  layer who hadn’t expected any punters out so early given the snowy weather.

Wendy didn’t really trap too well but, despite only a narrow passage at the top bend, squeezed through to take the lead and held off all challengers on the run to the line.

The Norahmac race video disc is being updated with the club’s last four wins – all courtesy of our blue girl, Hanover Lady. The races will be downloaded to the website in the next week or so.

Tickets are now limited for the Brighton Owners’ Awards Night – they are selling quickly and, given the eventual demand, across the Hove kennels, it’s worth booking sooner rather than later. The track will take credit card booking via the phone – mornings tend to be best.  Ask to be in the Norahmac enclosure of tables.  Any problems contact Sheila Joel via the Hove Owners Forum.

At time of writing Monday sees Oscar Lima and Memories Leah both having a sprint trial. (Update 23/1/13: Our dogs did not trial because of the inclement conditions).

Friday’s BAGS Brunch card provides Wendy (Hanover Lady) the chance for a quickfire double, contesting the D1 at 1.44pm. She’s berthed in one but will need to hold her ground in a field of generally rails  runners (other than wide seed in six) to land the spoils.  There are a couple of decent, though somewhat inexperienced types in the field, but, on balance of form and given a decent break, Wendy holds a reasonable chance.

Maybe more to follow…
