Woody rocks to a historic Hove hat-trick!
Review
You couldn’t make it up! What a great first night for the Norahmac Racing Club, Norah and all her supporters who had an evening to remember at the Sussex seaside stadium on Saturday.
It’s fair to say hopes for success were modest before proceedings began. Supporters relying on trophy presentations as the focus of formal activities.
But in fairytale fashion the fun and frolics began almost immediately with Norah’s very first runner, Mwebe Hilda, kicking off a tremendous treble for all concerned. Follow up wins by Farloe Scolari and the club’s very own Fleetwood Rocker ensured a truly magical night.
Buoyed by the earlier kennel success, a good number of members and associates couldn’t resist the 8-1 available on our blue boy who, lying handy from the off, had little trouble brushing past the leader on the turn for home, landing the spoils by a length.
The 515metre trip, and broader circumference at Nevill Road, certainly brought out the best in the Woodster.
Earlier in the evening Norah was waving a bucket at our owners group, raising money for Dylan’s charity walk in aid of The Brighton Retired Greyhound trust. For the record we raised £155 around the table – a norahmacnificent effort.
Droopys Leonard, our other club representative, lost little in defeat in his first race in the UK. An unusually tardy start left our young black and white plenty of ground to make up. At the 475metre marker he was pretty much on terms with the leader only to fade slightly to finish a close up fourth. A solid run, signally 475metres as his optimum – maybe a little maiden Open in the weeks ahead?
Don’t forget to enter the caption competition. The prize has increased to £24 given Hilda won at 8-1. The prize being Norah’s first graded winner’s odds to £3, or £10, whichever is the greater!
Well done to hard-working kennel lass Dawn – who was very involved in last weekend’s Final Fling for Norah Social, scooping the winning ticket in the Bob and Sam Hadley sponsored first graded winner raffle. A well deserved windfall!
Many thanks to all at Coral Hove stadium who made us all very welcome indeed; Rose, Sheila, Dave and the Racing Office to name but a few. And we’ve found a bookie who pays out with a smile, that’s Sheila’s husband!
For those that could not attend and for those who are more than happy to relive events, pictures from the evening as well as a video of Woody’s win will be posted asap.
